Kantorow at 2026 Lucerne’s Piano Symphonique
0000: Alexandre Kantorow shines in Lucerne with Prokofiev and a world premiere, alongside the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester.
The Piano Symphonique Festival returns to Lucerne for its fifth edition, confirming its position as a major platform for today’s leading pianists under the artistic presence of Martha Argerich. Bringing together established stars and rising talents, the festival continues to explore the full expressive range of the piano through orchestral concerts, recitals and premieres.
This programme places French pianist Alexandre Kantorow at its centre, one of the most remarkable virtuosos of his generation. Winner of the prestigious Tchaikovsky Competition and recipient of the Gilmore Artist Award, Kantorow has rapidly established himself on the international scene with a playing style combining power, clarity and poetic depth.
He performs Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3, a work of dazzling virtuosity and rhythmic intensity, alongside the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester under the direction of Robin Ticciati. The programme also reveals a more intimate and exploratory dimension, with rarely performed preludes by Charles-Valentin Alkan and the world premiere of The Kalamazoo Flow by Swedish composer Anders Hillborg, written especially for Kantorow.
The concert concludes with Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8, a luminous and richly melodic score inspired by Bohemian folk traditions, performed by an orchestra recognised for its international presence and commitment to artistic excellence.
Combining virtuosity, discovery and major symphonic repertoire, this programme reflects the spirit of a festival that continues to renew the piano tradition while opening it to new perspectives.
