Join Us for Vienna's Children's Opera Festival
You’re never too young to appreciate art!
Part of the highly-popular Filmfestival at Rathausplatz since 2018 and curated entirely by the IMZ, Vienna’s Children’s Opera Festival presents classical music tailored especially to little ones, making culture accessible to all ages!
We are particularly proud of this year’s line-up of choice productions, designed to please even the most discerning young culture vultures (and their parents): highlights include, but are certainly not limited to, Coppélia, a charming, partially-animated rendition of the classic ballet reinterpreted by Maurizio Malagnini and the Dutch National Ballet; a children’s version of Cinderella by British composer and teen prodigy Alma Deutscher, who was only 10 herself when she wrote the piece; and Der Herzlose Riese (The Heartless Giant), a gripping fairy tale of bravery and friendship performed by the Orchestre Philharmonique Luxembourg and conducted by David Niemann. As a special treat, the latter will have mezzo-soprano and cast member Christina Sidak as well as librettist Susanne Felicitas Wolf in attendance to introduce the piece and answer questions!
Shown every Friday through 2 September at 17:00 free of charge in Rathauspark, the music films are preceded by kids’ games, athletics and other activities to help burn off any excess energy. Bring the whole family!
