IMZ Academy Internal Session - 27 September 2019, 10:30-17:00 at the International Television Festival Golden Prague / Czech Republic - only by invitation!
In today’s fast-moving digital world many symphony orchestras and opera houses have well-developed streaming and online strategies at their disposal. This IMZ Academy Session gathers a selection of key market leaders and dynamic newcomers to share the latest developments in performance capture technology, examine best practice, the state of the art, how to reach an audience through focussing on distribution models and strategies with some leading platforms and players.
The purpose and benefit of this internal Expert Session is sharing key topics, developing a market overview, but also exchanging information in a confidential peer environment.
The participating experts:
PETER MANIURA, IMZ Academy Director:
Peter Maniura is an award-winning tv producer and director with more than twenty five years experience in music and arts broadcasting at the BBC and the EBU. He is also a digital media consultant and guest lecturer.
His most recent role at the BBC was Project Director, Classical Archive and Orchestras Digital Strategy for BBC Music; opening up the BBC’S unique music archive to the public in new ways. Prior to this he was Head of Digital Development for BBC Arts covering festivals, events and performance across the art forms. He was also commissioner for BBC Arts Online, which he launched in May 2014. Previously he was Creative Director and Curator of the new experimental BBC/Arts Council England digital online arts service ‘The Space’ which launched in May 2012 promoting digital innovation and creativity in the arts.
TONY FOLLOWELL, Head of Broadcast & Distribution at Royal Opera House:
Tony Followell has commercial and editorial responsibility for the ROH’s Live Cinema season and distribution across TV, DVD/VOD and live stream. He has also overseen digital media for ROH and produced/directed music events and documentaries for BBC TV. www.roh.org.uk
MANS PÄR FOGELBERG, Producer GSOplay at Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra:
Mans Pär Fogelberg has started his career at the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra as Audience Development Manager in 2007. In 2012 he became Producer for GSOplay, Gothenburg Symphony. In this position he has initiated Gothenburg Symphony's filmed concerts at gsoplay.com, investigated what technology should be used, set up the workflow and trained in-house staff. Mans is in charge of overseeing the whole process from planning to publishing and also acts as vision mixer/producer when live/recording and editor of video and sound in post-production. Prior to this Mans was responsible for the start of the first YouTube channel for an orchestra in January 2008 and worked as scriptwriter, editor and item producer for different TV shows in the cultural and entertainment segment of Sweden's public service television. http://www.gso.se
MIKKO HANNUKSELA, Digital Media Producer at Finnish National Opera and Ballet:
Mikko Hannuksela is the Digital Media Producer at the FNOB, responsible of producing the live streaming, TV and radio broadcasts and recordings of the performances. Mikko has also worked as the chorus manager of the FNO Chorus and in Warner Music and Ondine Records. https://oopperabaletti.fi/en
ULRIKE KÖSTINGER, Director of Cooperation + Development at takt1:
Ulrike Köstinger is an Austrian arts manager. She studied at the Vienna University of Economics and Business and the University of Zurich. From 2012-2014, she was a project manager in the casting office of the Salzburg Festival, before becoming a product manager in the marketing department at L’Oréal Austria. In January 2018 she became the Head of Cooperations for the streaming-platform takt1 and is now Director of Cooperation + Development since April 2019.
ROBERT ZIMMERMANN, Managing Director at Berlin Phil Media:
Robert Zimmermann is the founding CEO of Berlin Phil Media GmbH and initiator of the Berliner Philharmoniker’s Digital Concert Hall. In this unprecedented online concert venue, all concerts of the Berliner Philharmoniker are streamed live and made available within an online archive together with artist interviews and documentaries about the orchestra and its members. The Digital Concert Hall celebrated its tenth anniversary in January 2019 and has been described as "classical music's most advanced response to the digital revolution" by the Financial Times.
In 2014, Berlin Phil Media launched the Berliner Philharmoniker Recordings label which has since attained a special position in the international recording market with its high-quality, lavishly designed editions. As manager and consultant with a long track record within the media industry, he worked on a wide variety of projects for prestigious clients such as Lufthansa, the World Bank Group and various international banks. He has held several posts as restructuring manager and is managing partner of eins54 Film GmbH. As a film producer, he produced award-winning culture and music programs such as “One Night. One Life” and “Dichterliebe” which both feature Christine Schäfer. Robert Zimmermann's connection with the Berliner Philharmoniker goes back to his production of the silent movie “Le Sacre du Printemps” which was accompanied by the Berliner Philharmoniker and Sir Simon Rattle during the 2004 Berlinale Filmfestival. http://www.berliner-philharmoniker.de
TILL JANCZUKOWICZ, IDAGIO Founder:
Till Janczukowicz boasts more than 20 years’ experience as artist manager, producer and concert promoter. In 2000, he established the European office for Columbia Artists Management Inc., heading it as managing partner until 2011. In this role, he was responsible for organizing several of the Metropolitan Opera’s European tours, and his personal clients included conductors Christian Thielemann, Seiji Ozawa, André Previn, and Jukka-Pekka Saraste, and pianists Ivo Pogorelich and Arcadi Volodos. In 2008, he founded Abu Dhabi Classics, a performing arts series merging culture, education and tourism for the government of the United Arab Emirates. It was he who arranged UAE debuts for the New York, Berlin and Vienna Philharmonics; the Bayreuth Festival; and Daniel Barenboim, Simon Rattle, Zubin Mehta, Yo-Yo Ma, Ben Kingsley, Jeremy Irons, and other musical and artistic luminaries. https://www.idagio.com
