IMZ Academy 2026: Live Multi-Camera Directing of Opera Performances

Applications now open for an intensive multi-camera directing course at the Royal College of Music, London. The workshop offers a rare hands-on opportunity for screen directors, filmmakers, and production professionals to master the craft of live multi-camera opera direction.

Held in partnership with the Royal College of Music at their iconic Britten Theatre, participants will get direct experience camera directing sections of brand-new opera works, composed and performed by RCM students, using professional broadcast equipment and a state-of-the-art control room.

The workshop is led by an internationally experienced faculty of directors and TV professionals, and covers everything from camera scripting and shot grammar to gallery technique, dramatic narrative, and score-based direction. Participants will also gain experience collaborating with stage directors and wider creative teams.

The course is designed for a broad range of professionals, including directors new to classical music, single-camera filmmakers looking to develop multi-camera skills, and digital or production team members in opera houses and broadcast organisations seeking to deepen their expertise.
