ICMA 2019 for “Le nozze di Figaro”
The star-studded production of the Staatsoper Berlin released on DVD and Blu-ray in October 2018 receives the award as best video performance.
The jury of the International Classical Music Awards 2019 has selected the DVD and Blu-ray release of this production as “Best Video Performance”. Its star-studded cast was directed by Jürgen Flimm, who characterises the opera as follows: “Figaro is by far the best work ever devised for the stage; it combines everything that moves the human heart and mind – forlorn hope, pleasantry, satire, profound significance, also much ado about nothing and vain amours.”
Statement of the ICMA jury: “With Jürgen Flimm’s inventive and lively staging in Almaviva’s summer residence, as well as an excellent cast, this is an outstanding performance of Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, consistently conveying a very fresh and delightful humour. Despite rather measured speeds, Gustavo Dudamel’s inspired conducting carries all the sparkle of the music.”
The International Classical Music Awards Ceremony will take place on Friday, 10 May 2019, at the KKL Lucerne.
