I Want To Hear Sounds I Haven’t Heard Yet

Every Czech is a musician. Which domestic names currently resonate among the world's top composers?

Miroslav Srnka reflects on what he finds most satisfying as a composer and how he works with sounds that have never been heard before. We get to know him both as a composer and as a teacher at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Cologne. We observe a performance of his work Standstill for harpsichord and orchestra, which had its world premiere last year by the Gürzenich Orchestra Köln.

Michal Rataj operates on a wide range of musical genres. The documentary follows, among other things, his diametrically different projects - the premiere performance of the MOVIS piano concerto at the Prague Spring Festival, performed by Ivo Kahánek and the Czech Philharmonic, and the process of sounding the gorilla pavilion at the Prague Zoo, where visitors can experience the illusion of a jungle.

Eliška Cílková always starts her composing process on paper. What does she experience when she hears a piece live and can influence its interpretation, as in the case of String Quartet No. 4, which was staged by the Slovak Spectrum Quartett?

For Peter Graham and Ivan Palacký, who form Duo Palagrachio, the listener is as important as the performer. Contemporary music, they say, needs virtuoso listeners, for whom they organise "free-flowing concerts", where, in addition to the organ, the knitting machine is also to be heard.
