HOLLYWOOD IN VIENNA 2017 – FAIRY TALES
To celebrate its 10th anniversary, Hollywood in Vienna invites you into the realm of the fantastic and enchanted
“Hollywood in Vienna”, the symphonic gala concert celebrating beloved masterpieces of film music, combines an orchestral concert of highest musical level with guests from the dream factory and a Hollywood-like staging at the Vienna Concert Hall. In this edition, it deals with the special friendship between Hollywood and the world of fairy tales leading the audience into the land of mythical creatures.
“Beauty Belle” is allowed to realize that an enchanted prince may be hiding behind the fearsome Beast. Peering behind mysterious doors, a legendary parallel universe is explored in “The Chronicles of Narnia”. The ORF Radio-Symphonieorchester and conductor John Mauceri accompany the brave “Mulan” on her adventurous journey through medieval China. In “Finding Neverland”, they look over the shoulder of the author of “Peter Pan”. The musical programme further features the story of the shipwrecked Pi and a Bengal tiger in “Life of Pi”, before it finally pays homage to Simba, the “Lion King”.
At each Hollywood in Vienna gala the Max Steiner Film Music Achievement Award is presented by the City of Vienna to one of the world’s most renowned film music composers. This year’s winner is Danny Elfman, nominated for four Oscars and congenial partner of director Tim Burton. A selection of his unmistakably powerful sound fantasies from movies like “Edward Scissorhands”, “Batman” and “The Simpsons” will form the second part of the concert.
