With the introduction of Hi-Res Audio, the Berliner Philharmoniker’s Digital Concert Hall sets another milestone in its technological development. As the world’s first streaming service, the platform now combines an ultra-high definition video signal (UHD) with a lossless transmitted audio signal in studio quality.
The Digital Concert Hall now offers the best possible audiovisual broadcast quality in the field of video streaming and establishes a new standard.
For the online audience, Hi-Res Audio guarantees an acoustically authentic concert experience – without data loss, unadulterated and direct as if from the recording studio of the Philharmonie.

Hi-Res Audio can be offered thanks to the support and technological advice of Internet Initiative Japan (IIJ), the Digital Concert Hall’s streaming partner. The platform uses the Free Lossless Audio Codec (FLAC) previously used in audiophile circles for audio downloads. Concerts of the Berliner Philharmoniker can now be accessed from the Digital Concert Hall archive in an audio quality superior to that of a CD at no extra cost to users. At a later date, Hi-Res Audio will also be available for the live broadcasts from the Philharmonie. Hi-Res Audio is already available in the Digital Concert Hall mobile apps and for Apple TV, and will soon be available for other TVs and the website.

Audio format Hi-Res: Stereo 48 kHz / 96khz 24-bit · 1,400 kbit/s / 2,800 kbit/s · FLAC
Video format UHD: 3840*2160, color space BT.2020 in HDR/HLG h.265, up to 17,500 kbit/s
