IMZ at ITF Golden Prague 2024
The IMZ International Music + Media Centre participated in the Golden Prague International Television Festival, highlighting significant achievements in the performing arts and addressing pressing issues of representation and equality.
The IMZ is excited to share that the 2024 EBU-IMZ Outstanding Achievement Award has been awarded to Canadian documentary filmmaker Larry Weinstein. IMZ President Laetitia Huberti noted, “There is always an unexpected angle, a unique facet of his subject matter that only he can recognise, as his latest film Beethoven’s Ninth: An Ode to Humanity has once again shown.” We extend our warmest congratulations to Larry Weinstein and sincerely thank the Golden Prague International Television Festival for offering a platform to celebrate the outstanding contributions of this exceptional filmmaker to the performing arts.
We also celebrated our former IMZ Vice-President and dedicated member for nearly 60 years, Reiner Moritz, on receiving the prestigious "Artis Bohemiae Amicis" medal from the Czech Minister of Culture. This award, previously granted to cultural icons such as Ennio Morricone, Jiří Bělohlávek, and Zubin Mehta, recognises Mr. Moritz’s outstanding work in promoting Czech arts and culture abroad through his productions. His lifelong dedication to cultural films and documentaries has shaped a remarkable oeuvre and continues to inspire us all.
Furthermore, IMZ hosted a panel discussion titled "Women in Music and Representation on Screen," addressing crucial issues of gender equality and diversity in the performing arts. The workshop explored how the industry has historically received female composers and musicians compared to their male counterparts, discussing the evolution of opportunities and representation within the field. Co-moderators Laetitia Huberti and Miikka Maunula led a spirited discussion with panellists Anders Lindstad, Iveta Apkalna, Marlene Brüggen, and Daniel Gorjão, who reflected on their experiences in promoting female artists and considered the reception of their work by both the industry and the public.
