Back by popular demand! The IMZ is very proud to announce that it has partnered up with the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation to bring you another IMZ Academy Workshop on ‘Live Multi-Camera Directing in Classical Music’!

Held this year in Lisbon, the course is aimed at both emerging talents and seasoned professionals: After renowned experts like award-winning TV producer and director Peter Manuira or Script Supervisor Yvonne Craven share best practices for capturing large-scale orchestral work, participants will be able to apply their newfound knowledge by actively directing a concert film recording of the world-renowned Gulbenkian Orchestra in their state-of-the-art concert hall and control room!

Interested? Contact Max Güntert to apply for a spot – space is limited!

This course provides training for
• directors who have never worked in classical music or recorded a concert and seek to develop those skills
• directors who have some experience in working with musicians or orchestras and seek improvement with formal training
• single camera directors / film makers who would like to develop multi-camera skills specifically focused on classical music
• members of digital teams in orchestras or other music organisations seeking a basic foundation in these skills
• members of digital or production teams in broadcast media who wish to expand their skill base

The course aims to
• outline best practices in visualising, scripting and directing large-scale orchestral work with a multi-camera set-up, using both manned and remote-control cameras
• analyse the skill set of a director and good gallery technique
• explain how to camera script, explaining the grammar and musical basis thereof – including the framing of shots, the development of sequences, musical narrative, placing of cameras etc.
• describe commonly-used camera types and lenses
• offer hands-on scripting and directing experience
• provide guidance and feedback on the scripting and directing set tasks.

Please note that it is a requirement of the course that participants have a good knowledge of reading a musical score as we will be working with orchestral scores and using them as the basis for our camera scripts.
