Gala Concert (reopening of the Prague State Opera)
A gala concert on 5 January marking the reopening of the Prague State Opera, one of the most exquisite theatres in Europe, following its reconstruction.
On 5 January 2020, the day marking the 132nd anniversary of its first inauguration, the State Opera, one of the most exquisite theatres in Europe, will be reopened following its reconstruction. The gala concert, bearing the secondary title “The State Opera: Transformations in Time (1888–2018)”, will guide the audience through the illustrious history of its four resident opera companies. The arias, ensembles and overtures selected to be performed at the gala concert symbolise the seminal moments of the State Opera building's history – world and Czech premieres, exceptional productions, celebrated singers, conductors and stage directors, guest appearances of renowned foreign opera houses – as well as Czech history in general.
Under the baton of Karl-Heinz Steffens, the Music Director of the State Opera, the concert will feature distinguished soloists – such as Pavel Černoch, Lise Davidsen, Emily Magee, Eva Urbanová – and foreign guests of the National Theatre, and the State Opera Orchestra and Chorus.
