Film Festival at Wiener Rathausplatz
Opera... operetta… classical concerts... ballet... pop concerts... jazz concerts... world music performances... contemporary dance...
A wonderful time has once again come to an end. 53 nights enriched with first-class screenings of operas, classical concerts, ballets, operettas, pop and jazz music gigs are behind us. The 26th Film Festival at Wiener Rathausplatz with its impressive 300m2 screen amazed again hundreds of thousands of visitors of all ages. We say a huge THANK YOU to everybody who made the amazing Rathausplatz-experience possible – audiences, colleagues and partners!
On the occasion of the MET’s 10th anniversary of Live on Screen in Cinemas – HD Live we saw, heard and enjoyed on the big screen eight outstanding productions such as The Merry Widow, Le Comte Ory, Cavalleria Rusticana/I Pagliacci, Aida and Madama Butterfly.
We also celebrated Yehudi Menuhin’s 100th anniversary and honored in memoriam Pierre Boulez and Nikolaus Harnoncourt. The powerhouse of emotions has been fuelled by Verdi, Donizetti, Bizet, Monteverdi, Tschaikovski, Schubert, Puccini, Mahler, Rossini, Mozart, Lehár and many more.
Some of the finest voices brought their sparkle to this summer’s music scene at Wiener Rathausplatz. Starring on screen: Anna Netrebko, Grace Bumbry, Piotr Beczala, Kristine Opolais, Joyce DiDonato, Matthew Polenzani, Juan Diego Flórez, Vittorio Grigolo, Diana Damrau,...
Pop music lovers as well as Jazz aficionados saw and heard their wishes coming true – with Herbert Grönemeyer, Iggy Pop, Sammy Davis Jr., James Blunt, Placebo, Carla Bruni, Dionne Warwick, Gregory Porter or ZAZ, only to name a few.
We hope you enjoyed the festival’s unique atmosphere... Thanks for all your positive reactions and the wonderful time!
