Film about the music of Romania in pre-production
Accentus Music has started pre-production on its new documentary "Romanian Rhapsodies - On the traces of George Enescu" (WT), to be completed in 2022.
Romania is a country of contrasts and surprising diversity. For one, there is the pulsating metropolis of Bucharest with its two million inhabitants, its chic boutiques, cafés and lively, colorful cultural scene. But there are also dreamy mountain villages in rural regions where time has stood still and people still make their way to the next town in horse-drawn carriages. This is exactly what tourists associate with Romania: untouched nature, endless forests and picturesque beaches. Most commonly, the country is associated with the mythical world of vampires in Transylvania. Bran Castle, halfway between Bucharest and Cluj-Napoca, is still presented to visitors as Count Dracula's castle and is probably the country's biggest tourist attraction.
Romania's rich musical culture, on the other hand, is little known to most. The film "Romanian Rhapsodies - On the traces of George Enescu" (WT) takes viewers on a journey to the sounds of this rarely portrayed country on the edge of Europe. What connects the musicians with their homeland? Which traditions have survived? What is "Romanian music" anyway? These and other questions are the driving forces behind this film. In the process, we get to know not only the cultural and scenic richness, but also warmly humorous people and a turbulent history.
