Film about music in Romania has wrapped
0000: Accentus Music has wrapped filming for its new documentary "Amid Times and Worlds – Music in Romania" (WT), to be completed in 2022.
Romania is a country of contrasts and astonishing diversity. There is the pulsating metropolis of Bucharest with its two million inhabitants, its chic boutiques, cafés, and its lively, vibrant cultural scene. But there are also dreamy mountain villages in rural regions where time has stood still and people still use horse-drawn carriages to make their way to the next town. For tourists, Romania is synonymous with pristine nature, vast forests and picturesque beaches.
Romania's rich musical culture, on the other hand, is still completely unknown to most. The film “Amid Times and Worlds” (WT) takes viewers on a fascinating journey to extraordinary musicians. As we travel through the country, we meet artists in Timișoara, the 2023 Capital of Culture, and in the melting pot of Bucharest. We discover folk music traditions in Maramureș and the Carpathians and experience singing in the famous wooden churches in the north of the country.
Through conversations and interactions with musicians in Romania, the film paints a picture of the diversity of a country caught between tradition and modernity: What do people associate with their homeland? Which traditions have survived? Is there even such a thing as "Romanian music"? These and other questions are the driving force behind the film. In the course of the film, we get to know not only the diversity of the country's culture and landscape but also Romania's warm-hearted, humorous people and the country's turbulent history.
