"An orchestra with a particularly solid base, which nevertheless retains a great lightness. Beautifully defined vocal and instrumental timbres. The sound space is characterized by airiness and homogeneity across the entire spectrum. [A]n exemplary album as much by its musicological approach as by its production."

--Diapason D’Or Arte; Diapason Magazine April 2018

Anton Bruckner’s symphonic oeuvres remain rooted in the tradition of Viennese Classicism, and his “Missa Solemnis” is no exception. This recording celebrates and commemorates the inauguration ceremony for which it was written, of collegiate provost Friedrich Mayr in St. Florian, Austria back in September 1854.

Recently edited and newly published, Bruckner’s solemn mass is interspersed with the original elements by Robert Führer, Joseph Eybler, and Johann Baptist Gänsbacher. It has now been given new life by the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin – pioneers in historical performance – and the RIAS Kammerchor, led by maestro Łukasz Borowicz, one of the most versatile conductors of his generation. Outstanding soloists featured on this recording include Johanna Winkel (soprano), Sophie Harmsen (mezzo-soprano), Sebastian Kohlhepp (tenor), and Ludwig Mittelhammer (baritone) whose innate talents have helped achieve a string of accolades and performances over the past years.
