Danube so Blue: Open for Entries
The competition "DONAU SO BLAU – An Evergreen in a New Light" seeks contemporary cinematic interpretations of Strauss' iconic piece "An der schönen blauen Donau" (The Blue Danube).
Organised by VIENNA SHORTS and Johann Strauss Anniversary Year 2025 Vienna, the competition seeks to rejuvenate the popular piece free from clichés of the past. Entries can range from music videos, animations, to artistic experiments, exploring diverse approaches such as poetic, political, or personal perspectives.
Selected entries will be showcased publicly on May 28, 2025, at a gala event, awarded a total of €12,000, and featured as the "Strauss Prologue" during Vienna's Film Festival at Rathausplatz. The competition is open internationally, accepting submissions until January 5, 2025.
Veronica Kaup-Hasler, Vienna's Cultural Councillor, highlighted the importance of creative collaborations in enriching cultural landscapes, expressing excitement for innovative interpretations of Johann Strauss II's work during the festival.
