Concierto de Aranjuez & Carmina Burana
A perfect summer evening in the stunning Palau de la Música València with Alexander Liebreich and guitarist Ana Vidovic.
On June 14 and 15 the Orquestra de València and internationally acclaimed guitarist Ana Vidovic under the direction of chief conductor Alexander Liebreich, are performing one of the most famous works of classical music: Joaquin Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez.
Composed by Valencia-born Rodrigo as a tribute to the summer residence of Spanish kings, the Concierto de Aranjuez remains one of the most popular concerts in music history. With countless variations – from Paco de Lucía's flamenco improvisations to jazz versions by Chet Baker or Miles Davis, and to film music – it has influenced genre boundaries like no other classical work and is part of universal culture.
Short documentary clips accompanying the concert recording provide insights into Rodrigo's life and the creation of the masterpiece and shed light on the collaboration between soloist, conductor and orchestra, while impressive pictures from the gardens of Aranjuez complete the programme.
In the second part of the concert, a further, most prominent piece of classical modern music: Carl Orff's Carmina Burana.
