BELCEA QUARTET @ PIERRE BOULEZ SAAL
The Belcea Quartet, together with Antoine Tamestit, presents an exquisite chamber music programme at Berlin’s Pierre Boulez Saal.
The Belcea Quartet, one of the world’s leading chamber music ensembles, teams up with viola player Antoine Tamestit to light up the Pierre Boulez Saal in Berlin with an exciting programme that ranges from the Classical and Romantic era to the 20th century.
The intimate setting of the hall makes it perfect to experience chamber music: designed by architect superstar Frank Gehry with two artfully interlocking ellipses of the tiers, the hall allows the audience to experience an unusually strong connection to the special energy that is released when music is made.
The Belcea Quartet first performed at Pierre Boulez Saal as part of the opening season’s Quartet Festival in April 2017 and are now its ensemble in residence for the 2017/18 season. For their performance with Antoine Tamestit, the quartet chose Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s String Quintet in C major, K. 515 as well as Dmitri Shostakovich’s String Quartet No. 8 in C minor, which the Russian composer wrote in only three days in 1960. Johannes Brahms’s String Quintet No. 2 in G major, which Brahms intended to be his last piece of music, completes the impressive set of the Belcea Quartet, about whom “The Guardian” raves: “A world-class ensemble!”
To be produced in 4K/UHD.
An Heliox Films production in association with Unitel.
