In a partnership born of friendship and peace, the Israeli double bass player and the Japanese pianist combine their talents in a totally symbiotic project that looks as much to jazz as to classical music.
On one side, Avishai Cohen, bassist, singer and composer who has become one of the greats of contemporary jazz to the point of making a name for himself on a global scale.
The other is Makoto Ozone, a pianist trained in the United States, from where he launched a career that took him to the top of the international jazz circuit, before turning his attention to works from the classical repertoire.
When they joined forces in 2022 to form Amity Duet, the former on double bass and the latter on piano, both chose the Japanese word 'amity', meaning friendship, peace, harmony and mutual understanding, as if to emphasise the spiritual dimension of this union.
A unique collaboration, as much for its virtuosity as for its inspiration. A perfect match.
