For 30 years, euro-scene Leipzig has been a forum and pacesetter for contemporary dance in Germany. The anniversary festival in November 2020 had to be cancelled due to the pandemic; in its 31st year, the festival is starting a new era this November under new management. A new beginning that is also reflected in the work of the choreographers and dancers. For them, too, a new era is beginning.

The film Aufbruch accompanies choreographers Jefta van Dinther, Milla Koistinen, and Arno Schuitemaker, who react to this new beginning in works specifically put together for this film. In their performances, they represent the changeable feelings that accompany the return from isolation to closeness: from fear to overcome, from curiosity to euphoria. Carefully, they unfold a return to mutual support and trust with the unifying expressive power of contemporary dance. And at the same time show how dance can also be a celebration of life and joy.

The three-part work is being created in cooperation with euro-scene at Kunstkraftwerk Leipzig. In the old factory halls, the choreographers will present excerpts from new choreographies and performances that reflect the process of rapprochement - starting with the isolated solo dancer from Jefta van Dinther's Mountains and ending with the explosive finale of the group event If You Could See Me Now by Arno Schuitemaker.

Filming in Kunstkraftwerk Leipzig from Nov 8 to 10, 2021 + additional documentary filming in Oct/Nov 2021.
