Alice Sara Ott – Nocturne
Alice Sara Ott performs seven of John Field's Nocturnes, set against the backdrop of impressive visual landscapes created by director Andrew Staples.
The Irish pianist and composer John Field pioneered one of music's most beloved forms: the Nocturne. However, it was Frédéric Chopin who truly popularised these single movement, melodic character pieces. His 21 Nocturnes are found in the repertoire of almost every pianist. The same cannot be said of his predecessor.
In this film, Alice Sara Ott plays seven of John Field's nearly forgotten works, aiming to introduce them to a wider audience. The result of this artistic collaboration between the pianist and director Andrew Staples is a film about an artist's approach to the music of an almost forgotten composer – a composer who gifted the world one of its most cherished musical forms: the Nocturne.
