ACCIDENT - A family portrait
How to take a family photo where one of the members is no longer alive, and the family, apart from his wife, are against the whole project.
In 'Accident', death comes unexpectedly and abruptly to a family that has recently been challenged by the pater familia’s marriage to a much younger woman. As is well known, it takes only one person to disrupt any atmosphere, to divide family members, and to destroy a family culture that has been built up over generations. The new young wife is such a person. When he dies suddenly, perhaps of Covid-19, perhaps in a car accident, it becomes extremely important to her to immediately push through the delayed plan for a new family photo. She forces the family to the photographer, who is unaware of the condition of the head of the family and is appalled at having to deal with such an unthinkable situation. How to take a family photo where one of the members is no longer alive, and where the rest of the family, apart from the young wife, struggles to hide their opposition to the whole project? It becomes a grotesque task for the photographer.
The primary focus throughout the film is the actual work of getting the picture taken. This will be interrupted by short sequences in which the individual family members and their relationships to each other are revealed.
EugèneYsaye's violin sonatas are virtuoso works of great emotional power, and Vilde Frang adds nuances and depth to the abstract. Along with the visual and the choreographic, there is the potential for a very complex and humorous alchemy with unprecedented possibilities for tonal and kinetic combinations.
