Millions of Ukrainians have been forced to leave their homes and flee from the battles since 24 February 2022, when Russia launched a war on Ukraine.
Among those Ukrainians who came to Finland there are three dancers: Anastasia Mostovaya, Nina Bulgakova and Ekaterina Zhuravleva. Together they form the prestigious dance group Ethno Contemporary Ballet.
The Finnish choreographer Hanna Brotherus met her Ukrainian colleagues, and during their meetings a dream of creating a dance work was born. Through movement and music the dance work aims at opening a human connection that keeps hope alive.
- It was important to me to find a way to react, and that became possible when I met the Ukrainian dancers.
The dance short film and the making of were shown on the Finnish Broadcasting Company’s channels on 24 February 2023, with the possibility to donate to the children of Ukraine through Unicef.
