The Operas of the Innsbruck Festival
At the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music, three opera rarities can be experienced in a staged setting.
The new Musical Director of the Innsbruck Festival, Ottavio Dantone, makes his debut with "Cesare" by Geminiano Giacomelli. Under his direction, the new "orchestra in residence," the Accademia Bizantina, performs. Among the soloists are sopranos Arianna Vendittelli and Emöke Barath, alto Margherita Maria Sala, as well as countertenors Filippo Mineccia and Federico Fiorio. The internationally acclaimed Leo Muscato directs the production. Andrea Marcon and the La Cetra Baroque Orchestra grace the festival with Christoph Graupner's "Dido". In the staging by historical performance specialist Deda Christina Colonna, Robin Johannsen takes on the title role, leading a cast of top-tier singers, including Andreas Wolf and Alicia Amo. In the Baroque opera "Arianna in Creta" by Georg Friedrich Händel, participants from the previous Cesti competition once again showcase their exceptional talent. Conductor Angelo Michele Errico, alongside the Barockorchester:Jung, leads the winner Mezzo-soprano Mathilde Ortscheidt, the third-place Baritone Giacomo Nanni, and Soprano Neima Fischer.
"Where do we come from? Where are we going?" These are the questions posed by the 48th Innsbruck Festival of Early Music in 2024. From 21 July to 30 August, the festival will resonate throughout the city of Innsbruck with over 50 events. The new Artistic Director, Eva-Maria Sens, and the new Musical Director, Ottavio Dantone, have curated an exceptional program. Alongside well-established traditions, there are also new formats to discover.
