Quasthoff sings Mahler
A concert due to Gustav Mahler's 150th birthday in 2010 featuring the baritone Thomas Quasthoff and the great maestro Zubin Mehta.
The baritone Thomas Quasthoff is one of the most important and versatile singer of our time. After his retirement from the career as classical singer in 2012, he works as a teacher on universities and as a jazz singer. Together with Zubin Mehta, who has an excellent international reputation as conductor of the best orchestras like the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra since 1969, he brought Gustav Mahler’s “Kindertotenlieder” on the stage of Semperoper Dresden. Since 1994 Mehta has been closely associated with the Staatskapelle Dresden. The concert took place during the Mahler celebrations due the composer's 150th birthday in 2010. With this intimate interpretation they create a moving atmosphere. The Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden, one of the oldest and highly ranked orchestras of the world, is the perfect partner for Zubin Mehta to perform “Six pieces for orchestra, op. 6” by Anton Webern and “Also sprach Zarathustra” op. 30, composed by Richard Strauss.
