OFUNAM Second Season 2022 Programme 9: Three Stories

This program by the OFUNAM presents three stories guided by music. Featuring the world debut of Umbral, a piece by Mexican Composer, Marcela Rodríguez.

The 9th program of the second season of the OFUNAM is directed by resident director, Ludwig Carrasco. It presents three pieces, three different stories told through the medium of music.

The first piece is the world premiere of Umbral, by Mexican Composer, Marcela Rodríguez, which was commissioned directly by the orchestra in 2020. With it, the composer established a sort of dialogue with the work of Beethoven in order to create an intertextual experience.

The second piece presented was composed by a former OFUNAM director, José Francisco Vásquez. His violin concerto no. 1 consists of the following movements:
I. Allegro con brio
II. Adagio
III. Largo-Allegro (Rondo final).

The piece is performed by French violinist, Ana Göckel, who in 2020 she received the Enesco Award from the French Society of Authors, Composers and Music Publishers for her work in new music and was nominated for the Classical Revelation of the Year award at the 2016 French Grammys.

Finally, the third piece is Symphony no. 8 in G major, Op. 88, by Czech composer, Antonín Dvořák. This symphony is divided in these movements:
I. Allegro con brio
II. Adagio
III. Allegretto grazioso – Molto vivace
IV. Allegro ma non troppo
