Performed by a brilliant cast including tenor Brandon Jovanovich, soprano Ailyn Pérez, mezzo-soprano Anita Rachvelishvili and tenor Brian Jagde with the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Lorenzo Viotti, the Robert Carsen’s widely acclaimed 2019 production plays a masterful game of theatre-in-theatre, avoiding clichés and calling into question the nature of reality.
