Denis Kozhukhin returns to Flagey with Mussorgsky
On 2 October, piano virtuoso Denis Kozukhin returns to Flagey with music by Haydn, Brahms and Mussorgsky’s monumental Pictures at an Exhibition.
Since winning First Prize at the 2010 Queen Elisabeth Competition, Denis Kozhukhin has ranked among the world’s leading pianists. He is no stranger to Flagey either: as a former artist in residence, he developed a special relationship with the venue. Now he returns with a recital that once again showcases his technical command and deeply considered interpretations.
For this recital, Kozhukhin contrasts two spirited sonatas by Haydn with Johannes Brahms’s introspective Klavierstücke, Op. 118. The programme culminates in one of the towering monuments of the Russian piano repertoire: Modest Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition. Rich in vivid musical imagery, this landmark cycle is the ultimate test for pianists seeking to display both their virtuosity and their imagination – a challenge perfectly suited to Kozhukhin.
Experience Kozhukhin’s virtuosic tour de force live at Flagey (Brussels) on 2 October 2026.
