CD:
Claudio Abbado and the Berliner Philharmoniker
Claudio Abbado’s last concert with the Berliner Philharmoniker is now available on CD/SACD. In May, a limited vinyl edition of the recording will follow.
The programme of this concert from May 2013 featured Felix Mendelssohn’s music for A Midsummer Night’s Dream with Deborah York (soprano), Stella Doufexis (mezzo-soprano) and the ladies of the Bavarian Radio Choir and Hector Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique.
The release on hybrid SACDs allows the playback of the recording both on standard devices in best CD sound, and in high-resolution audio quality and surround sound on SACD players. This edition is a lower-priced new version of the 2016 award-winning and highly praised multimedia Abbado edition which was released to commemorate the second anniversary of Abbado’s death. The vinyl edition contains three half-speed mastered LPs and is aimed at audiophile vinyl lovers. Both editions are supplemented by an extensive booklet
