Tribute to Mats Ek : Another Place
4 years after the announcement of his withdrawal from the artistic scene, the emblematic contemporary choreographer Mats Ek, is back at Opéra Garnier!
This two part programme is a unique opportunity to pay tribute to the art of this immense choreographer, one of the most influential in modern dance of the 20th century.
Mats Ek is proposing a new ballet piece, "Another Place", a 35-minute pas de deux created at the Opéra Garnier in Paris as an echo of "Place", the mythical 28-minute duet between Mikhael Baryshnikov and Anna Laguna, filmed at the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm in 2009. This new duet will be danced by the stars Ludmila Pagliero and Stéphane Bullion, the remarkable star dancer who will bid farewell to the Paris Opera Ballet.
A couple gravitates around a simple table and a carpet. Love, its impulses, its exhaustion, time, wear and tear, the attempt at a new approach between a man and a woman, their anguish, vulnerability and madness... everything is played out carnally, straightforwardly, with humour and harshness in the immensity of a bare and completely open stage, on the uninterrupted thread of Franz Liszt's Sonata in B minor written in one piece.
The recording is followed by an exclusive 13-minute narrative on the art of Mats Ek, revisiting the artistic relationship between the choreographer and Stéphane Bullion through the experience of his interpretation of Another Place, but also of "Bernarda's House" and "Apartment", two Mats Ek ballets that Stéphane has danced throughout his career.
