The Vienna Philharmonic – Beyond Music!
c2m and ServusTV present a new documentary about a world orchestra in transition: the Vienna Philharmonic.
Over much of its distinguished history, The Vienna Philharmonic has been considered as one of the best orchestras in the world. With a long tradition in mind, the musicians reflect on the role of their orchestra in the 21st century. In a modern world in which so many traditions are fading, how do these musicians secure a role for themselves - and for the music they love - in an uncertain future? A world orchestra undergoing changes....
The documentary film, produced by the duo Co Merz (director) and Walter Schirnik (executive producer) gives a close-up view of the orchestra's inner life. Following the orchestra in Vienna, where the musicians are shown in the Musikverein, the State Opera, and at the world-famous New Year's Concert as well as in their private surroundings. In addition, the orchestra is accompanied to the Salzburg Festival, their "summer residence" so to say, as well as on their tour throughout Asia. The documentary is completed by the project "The Philharmonic Suit", the Philharmonic’s new uniforms, designed by Vivienne Westwood and Andreas Kronthaler.
Selected Orchestra members: Rainer Küchl, Heinrich and Patricia Koll, Sophie Dartigalongue, Matthias Schorn, Thilo Fechner, et al.
