Stagescreen's New Janis Joplin film
Stagescreen has completed filming A Night With Janis Joplin, the West End musical, ready for screenings in cinemas in UK and globally in March 2025.
Stagescreen's third cinema presentation in 9 months will be the musical A Night With Janis Joplin, filmed in London's West End and due for release in March 2025. It features an extraordinary performance from Mary Bridget Davies in the title role, for which she was Tony-nominated.
Janis Joplin was not just the first major female rock star, but also a trailblazer for what women could achieve by going their own way and being true to themselves. She burned very bright but for a very short time, like her friend Jimi Hendrix dying aged 27 in 1970. But her music, and in particular her live performances, live on and Davies's remarkable inhabiting of Joplin and her singing bring her back to life in a festival of rock music. Her influences, from Bessie Smith to Odetta, Nina Simone to Aretha Franklin, are also represented in powerful portrayals.
It's been described as a 'bio-concert'; what it is definitely, is a barnstorming tour de force.
