Seven Lives of Music
A journey with the Kanneh-Masons: The documentary about cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason and his family goes into production.
They’re hip, they’re seven and they’re on a shared mission: The Kanneh-Masons are champions of equal opportunities and diversity within the classical music sector.
Cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason rose to sudden fame after performing for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. Now he is conquering the stages of the world. But his success story would be inconceivable without his self-sacrificing parents and gifted siblings. We immerse ourselves in the everyday life of one of the most extraordinary families of musicians of our time – and in the “House of Music” in Nottingham.
At the famous Abbey Road Studios, the siblings record for the first time as “The Kanneh-Mason Family”. Sheku and Isata then leave the sacred halls of the Royal Academy of Music in London to travel as “The Kanneh-Mason Duo” to Madrid and Berlin. They are conquering the stages of Europe, as well as capturing a new audience.
In the film, Sir Simon Rattle, Elton John, Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla and Nile Rodgers shed light on this remarkable family of musicians.
