In their only taped European show of their "Alive in the Catacombs Tour", Queens of the Stone Age bring unique arrangements to the stage of Baloise Session. The American rock band founded in 1996 by Josh Homme, continues to thrill fans around the world for their characteristic mix of stoner rock, alternative and hard rock with catchy riffs and powerful vocals, gaining a firm place in the rock scene through changing members and collaborations with well-known musicians such as Dave Grohl.

In 2002, the band released Songs for the Deaf, one of the most influential rock albums since the turn of the millennium. In the catacombs of Paris, the Californians re-orchestrated their songs, surrounded by the remains of millions of people. For this extremely particular performance at Baloise Session, the band has rearranged their songs for a small ensemble with electric amplification. Supported by a string trio and unconventional instruments such as chains and chopstick percussion, an electric piano powered by a car battery, Basel's audience was gifted one of the most intimite rock evenings the festival has ever seen.
