Queen’s Delight at Flagey
Flagey celebrates 150 years of Queen Elisabeth of Belgium with a concert day reuniting iconic laureates of the Queen Elisabeth Competition.
One hundred and fifty years ago, Queen Elisabeth of Belgium was born. A passionate violinist and devoted patron of the arts, she played a defining role in Belgian and international musical life. Her name lives on in the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Competition, which has been launching leading musical talents onto the world stage for decades.
To honour her legacy, Flagey presents Queen’s Delight: a musical promenade conceived as an intense day of concerts, encounters and exchanges. Ten iconic laureates from different generations gather for a unique reunion that transcends the framework of the Competition. Pianists, violinists, cellists and singers will perform in various constellations, from solo works to newly formed chamber ensembles, inviting audiences to experience music as dialogue and shared discovery.
Among the laureates on the programme are Alexander Melnikov, Jonathan Fournel, Timothy Chooi, Santiago Cañón-Valencia, Eva Zaïcik, Severin von Eckardstein, Sylvia Huang and Josef Špaček. By bringing established artists and younger talents together on equal terms, Queen’s Delight reveals the Competition not as an endpoint, but as the beginning of an artistic journey – a vision that resonates deeply with Queen Elisabeth’s enduring commitment to music.
