Opus Klassik Award for “The Miracle of Heliane”
The NAXOS AUDIOVISUAL / Deutsche Oper Berlin production of Korngold’s “The Miracle of Heliane” has been awarded the OPUS KLASSIK 2020 as Best Opera Recording.
As announced by the jury of the OPUS KLASSIK early September, the recording of Korngold’s “The Miracle of Heliane” from Deutsche Oper Berlin receives the 2020 award for the Best Opera Recording 20th/21st century.
Erich Wolfgang Korngold spoke of this work as his “masterpiece”. “The Miracle of Heliane” bears all the hallmarks of Korngold’s musical theatre – and goes one step further in scale, with a huge score and orchestra, intoxicating pathos and exquisitely expressive harmonies that play with polytonality – resulting in a gripping and sensuous drama.
An outstanding cast in all roles, staging by Christof Loy and the Orchestra of the Deutsche Oper Berlin conducted by Mark Albrecht awoke Korngold’s grand and opulent music from decades of slumber and made this production a real triumph, acclaimed by the audience and international ciritcs.
As a title character in “The Miracle of Heliane” Sara Jakubiak celebrated her greatest success due to the elaborate staging by Christof Loy, but more to her brilliant presentation.
