New IMZ Member: San Francisco Dance Film Festival
The San Francisco Dance Film Festival (SFDFF) is an international platform for the presentation and development of dance-based films.
Its purpose is not only to celebrate the best dance films from around the world but to also encourage and assist Bay Area choreographers and filmmakers in the creation of new dance works created for the screen.
Dancers and filmmakers have worked together since the invention of the motion picture, but the dance film genre has exploded in recent years as digital technologies have become more accessible to independent artists. Today’s dance films encompass a wide range of interpretations and include contributions from visual artists, animators, composers and live performers.
SFDFF’s programming covers this broad spectrum by highlighting genres such as “screendance”, short experimental dance pieces created specifically for the camera, as well as filmic interpretations of dance performances originally created for the stage; live performance captures, feature documentaries and films suited for art installations are all welcomed entries in our annual competition and festival.
IMZ partnered with SFDFF in 2013 to present Dancescreen in San Francisco and we look forward to seeing more works produced or distributed by IMZ members in our festival.
