Isacco, Voice Killer & discover the Season 25/26
Oratorio Isacco, World premiere of Voice Killer and a rich 25/26 season with operetta, zarzuela, rarities, family opera and early music on all stages.
The MusikTheater an der Wien proudly presents Marianna Martines’ rarely performed oratorio Isacco figura del redentore. Written in 1782 to honour Metastasio, the work offers a psychologically refined portrayal of the biblical sacrifice of Isaac, with dazzling coloratura arias and powerful recitatives. With this masterpiece, director Eva-Maria Höckmayr makes her Vienna debut.
Also premiering is Voice Killer by Czech composer Miroslav Srnka on 13 June 2025. Based on a true WWII crime case, it follows a US soldier haunted by his mother’s lullabies. Srnka and librettist Tom Holloway focus on the women whose voices made them victims. Directed by Cordula Däuper and conducted by Finnegan Downie Dear, Voice Killer features Klangforum Wien and an exciting cast.
The 25/26 season, now officially presented, marks the first full season in the renovated house. With twelve new productions, a revival and a vibrant programme across three venues, MusikTheater an der Wien continues its bold artistic mission. Highlights include Die Fledermaus directed by Stefan Herheim, Unsuk Chin’s Alice in Wonderland, Benamor with Rossy de Palma, and the two-part evening Lady Magnesia and Zweimal Alexander. Baroque rarities like L’opera seria, Alessandro nell’Indie and L’Orontea showcase artists such as Christophe Rousset and Max Emanuel Cencic.
Tickets can be purchased online, by phone at +43 (0)1 58885-111, or at the box offices at Theater an der Wien and the Wien Ticket Pavilion next to the Vienna State Opera.
