Daniil Trifonov: My American Story – South
Daniil Trifonov explores the colours, rhythms and melodies of South America in a vibrant programme filmed at Sala São Paulo.
Daniil Trifonov follows up his very personal exploration of North American music with this concert devoted to music from South America. Filmed at the Sala São Paulo in the heart of Brazil’s largest city, the programme is built around Cuadros del Sur, a newly commissioned work for piano and small orchestra created by Osvaldo Golijov and Gonzalo Grau, based on material from Golijov’s The Passion According to St. Mark. Alongside it, Trifonov performs music by Villa-Lobos, Ginastera and many more – as well as his own Tango. The result is a fascinating and invigorating journey into the colours, rhythms and melodies that run through the continent’s music, while showcasing the remarkable versatility and virtuosity of one of today’s leading pianists.
