Baden-Baden: Boito: Mefistofele
Premiere of the new production in the Whitsun Festival Baden-Baden 2016.
Playing Mefistofele as a mixture of Latin lover, prankster and demon in Gounod’s Faust opera, Erwin Schrott has already given Festspielhaus audiences a taste of his greatness. Arrigo Boito’s “Mefistofele” as it was performed at the Whitsun Festival Baden-Baden 2016 is a real feast. The composer and librettist combines influences of Verdi and Wagner in his musical work: rousing choirs, intricate melodies accompanied by music that is almost cinematic in intent – an intoxicating mix that audiences around the globe find unforgettable. A new discovery that is also a reunion with old friends.
