Words of welcome by Arild Erikstad, IMZ President:

Dear Members and friends,

2016 was an extraordinary year - our 55th anniversary year!

Looking back, we are happy to say that, once again, our very own Avant Première Music + Media
Market Berlin 2016, the world’s largest trade fair for performing arts films, was a huge success. We would
like to thank the more than 450 participants, who helped make this edition the spectacular event
that it was and our largest one to date. It is always great to be around people dedicated to music
and art who can help you and your business reach your goals and beyond. A highlight of this year’s
edition, which made us especially proud, was announcing our new IMZ Honorary Member, the
legendary tenor Juan Diego Flórez.

The Film Festival at Wiener Rathausplatz once again attracted more than half a million visitors
throughout the summer. True to the IMZ’s mission, the festival was free of charge and open to everybody,
just like the additional Music Film Festivals, which we curated all around the globe.

The 14th edition of the Dancescrecen competition took place in June, in association with FRAME:
The London Dance Film Festival, presented by BalletBoyz, turning London into a hub for dance
fi lm experts. The ‘dancescreen Pitching Session’ also fostered the development of coproductions
by creating space for contacts, discussions and networking.

In order to further promote international production companies, the EBU and IMZ partnered up to create a new pitching format, which off ered a new business opportunity and fi nancial support for intended future productions.

This year we also proudly announced the newly elected IMZ Board for 2017 - 2019, consisting
of representatives from internationally acclaimed broadcasters, producers, distributors as well as
educational institutions. I am grateful to have been elected president once again and I would like
to express my gratitude to all the board members for their dedicated work and important support.

On behalf of the IMZ Board and our hard-working IMZ Team in Vienna, I would like to thank you
for another great year. We hope to see you at Avant Première Music + Media Market Berlin 2017.

Last but not least, we look forward to supporting and celebrating the performing arts media industry
for another 55 years.
