Verdi + Wagner - A harmonic opposition
fidelio focuses on the two giants of romantic opera and premieres some of the most legendary productions from Bayreuth and La Scala.
fidelio will set a thematic focus on romantic opera this month. At the sharp end the two giants of romantic opera – Wagner and Verdi will be presented with the premiere of some of the most legendary productions in recent years:
Wolfgang Wagner's Bayreuth Festival production of "Parsifal" from 1998 and of "Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg" from 1999: Among the vocal soloists are some of the most acclaimed Wagner-performers (Peter Seiffert, Falk Struckmann). The musical direction is taken care of by Giuseppe Sinopoli and respectively Daniel Barenboim.
Peter Steins "Aida" from La Scala in 2015: Conducted by Zubin Mehta and featuring a marvelous ensemble: Kristin Lewis as Aida, Anita Rachvelishvili as Amneris, George Gagnidze as Amonasro and Matti Salminen as high priest Ramfis.
Besides these premieres, every single Verdi Opera can be found in the fidelio collection and an extensive selection of the best productions of Wagner Operas.
