Theater an der Wien presents the season 2021/22
Theater an der Wien presents the season 2021/22 and invites to a musical and scenic trip from the birth of opera until present times.
After 15 years, this season – called „Schwarze Nachthelle“ – will be the last season of Intendant Roland Geyer and show high-class artists and ensembles. Watch the season’s presentation here.
Robert Carsen directs Cavalieri‘s Rappresentatione di Anima et di Corpo, Giovanni Antonini conducts Il Giardino Armonico, Christof Loys will revive the opera awarded production of Britten’s Peter Grimes from 2016. Catalanis La Wally will be interpreted by the young director Barbora Horáková such as from Andrés Orozco-Estrada, chief conducter of the Wiener Symponiker. In Händel’s Giulia Cesare (directed by Keithz Warner) Bejun Mehta will sing the title role (Director: Keith Warner). Martin Kušej and Ingo Metzmacher will interpret Puccini‘s Tosca with Kristīne Opolais, Lotte de Beer directs Janáček‘s Jenůfa mit Nina Stemme as Küsterin, who will make her debut at Theater an der Wien. The season will star with the Hamburg Ballett and John Neumeier, who honour the Genius Loci with “Beethoven-Projekt II”.
