MET OPERA LIVE IN HD – Eugene Onegin
02 MAY 2026: Extraordinary soprano Asmik Grigorian stars in Tchaikovsky’s masterwork Eugene Onegin – live in cinemas on 2 May.
Following her acclaimed 2024 Met debut in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, soprano Asmik Grigorian returns to the Met as Tatiana, the lovestruck young heroine in this ardent operatic adaptation of Pushkin. Opposite her, baritone Iurii Samoilov makes his company debut with the title role, a nonplussed aristocrat who discovers the power of love too late. Stanislas de Barbeyrac, one of the most exciting and in-demand artists today, is the ardent poet Lenski, the friend-turned-rival Onegin kills in a duel.
The evocative production, directed by Tony Award–winner Deborah Warner, “offers a beautifully detailed reading of … Tchaikovsky’s lyrical romance” (The Telegraph). It is set in the late 19th century and moves episodically from farmhouse to ballroom, with a powerful snowstorm providing the dramatic setting for the finale.
The live cinema transmission is part of the Met’s award-winning LIVE IN HD series, presented in Germany and Austria by Clasart Classic.
