Lucas & Arthur Jussen in Dortmund
01 MARCH 0000: Lucas and Arthur Jussen perform Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's Concerto for Two Pianos and Orchestra in E major.
Under the direction of Andris Nelsons, the Gewandhaus Orchestra will perform works by Gustav Mahler and Antonín Dvořák as well as Mendelssohn's Concerto for Two Pianos. The soloists at the Konzerthaus Dortmund are Lucas and Arthur Jussen, who know how to delight their audience with their skill and a lot of fun playing.
They are probably the best-known piano duo in the world - and definitely captivating: the brothers Lucas and Arthur Jussen are full of verve and don't hide how much fun they have playing on stage. Together, they tackle a work that also tells of a sibling bond.
Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy was just 14 years old when he composed the Concerto for Two Pianos and Orchestra in E major for his sister Fanny's birthday. The Dutch brothers Lucas and Arthur Jussen give a virtuoso performance of the rarely played concerto, accompanied by the Gewandhaus Orchestra and its chief conductor, Andris Nelsons.
Beforehand, the orchestra and conductor present another rarity - the beautiful Blumine movement, which Gustav Mahler intended for the original version of his first symphony.
And the crowning finale is Antonín Dvořák's life-affirming Eighth Symphony.
