The Wild Duck by The Norwegian National Ballet
A haunting new ballet closes Marit Moum Aune’s Ibsen trilogy with secrets, illusions and powerful dance at the Norwegian Opera and Ballet.
After the acclaimed productions of Hedda Gabler and Ibsen’s Ghosts, the Norwegian National Ballet completes Marit Moum Aune’s Ibsen trilogy with a striking new adaptation of The Wild Duck. This contemporary ballet brings Henrik Ibsen’s complex family drama to the stage through bold movement, emotional depth and an evocative soundscape.
Director Marit Moum Aune reunites with award-winning composer Nils Petter Molvær, set designer Even Børsum and costume designer Ingrid Nylander. Together, they reveal the hidden emotional world of the Ekdal family, whose secrets are embodied by a wounded wild duck living in their attic. The story probes deep into themes of truth, illusion and the devastating cost of honesty.
The Norwegian National Ballet’s expressive interpretation of Ibsen continues to captivate both local and international audiences. As a critic once wrote about Hedda Gabler: “Hearts explode when the Norwegian National Ballet dances Ibsen.” The Wild Duck confirms this legacy with its gripping choreography and atmospheric stagecraft.
