The Night: Chronicles of Vanessa Paradis’ return
Vanessa Paradis returns with a new album, captured in an intimate documentary following her creative process between Paris and London.
After a seven-year absence from recording, Vanessa Paradis returns with a new album, Le retour des beaux jours (The return of sunny days), developed in close collaboration with Étienne Daho and Jean-Louis Piérot—two key figures of the French pop scene. Vanessa Paradis, The Night offers an intimate insight into this creative process, captured over nearly two years by director Julien Peultier.
The film immerses viewers in the daily reality of artistic creation, from the first musical sketches to the final recordings. Moving between the Motorbass studio in Paris and the iconic Abbey Road Studios in London, it documents the evolution of the project through moments of doubt, experimentation and sudden inspiration.
At its core, the documentary reveals the unique artistic relationship between Vanessa Paradis and Étienne Daho, highlighting a dialogue built on trust, intuition and shared musical sensibility. Far from a traditional studio documentary, the film captures the fragile and often invisible stages of creation—where melodies emerge, arrangements take shape and artistic direction is constantly redefined.
Combining a rare behind-the-scenes perspective with the presence of one of France’s most iconic artists, Vanessa Paradis, The Night offers both a portrait of creation and a reflection on the passage of time in an artist’s career. It provides a compelling entry point into contemporary French pop, balancing intimacy, authenticity and artistic ambition.
