Start of filming: When the Evening and Morning Meet
In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Baltic States, Accentus Music has started filming for a new documentary about the music of the Baltic.
In 2018, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia of the Baltic region celebrate their centenary. It is striking that in recent years many highly-acclaimed musicians from exactly those countries have entered the international music scene – artists such as Andris Nelsons, Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla, Elīna Garanča and Kristīne Opolais, to name only a few.
The Kremerata Baltica, which expressly unites the most talented young musicians from Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, builds bridges – both within the Baltic and beyond. The orchestra is a perfect way to become better acquainted with these three countries. Its members are characterized not only by their great musicality but also by their musical and socio-political curiosity for their own country, the neighboring countries, and the world.
The film accompanies the musicians as they tour through the Baltic countries. With wit and charm they point out similarities and differences of their musical culture as they travel by land and sea from major urban centers to small villages, conjure up spontaneous sessions, return home to their families, meet composers like Arvo Pärt, Peteris Vasks or Raminta Šerkšnytė, conductors like Andris Nelsons or Tõnu Kaljuste, soloists like Elīna Garanča or Baiba Skride and visit festivals like Nargenfestival on the island Naissaar/Estonia or the Latvian Song Festival in Riga. The result is a varied and entertaining picture of three small countries with an enormous musical potential.
