Nelsons conducts Mahler: Symphony No. 8
0000: Andris Nelsons concludes his Mahler cycle with the monumental “Symphony of a Thousand” in a live concert from the Wiener Konzerthaus.
Andris Nelsons brings his acclaimed Mahler cycle with the Wiener Philharmoniker to a rousing close with the composer’s monumental Eighth Symphony, nicknamed "Symphony of a Thousand". Streaming live from the Wiener Konzerthaus, the concert sees orchestra and conductor joined by massed choirs and eight international soloists, tackling the symphony's two contrasting parts: the blazing "Veni, Creator Spiritus" leading to a setting of the final scene of Goethe’s "Faust" – and culminating one of Mahler's most powerful symphonic endings. This promises to be a concert that will echo long in the memory.
