With Dream Manifest, trumpeter and composer Theo Croker delivers a powerful statement of contemporary jazz, captured live at the Jazz en Tête Festival in Clermont-Ferrand. Rooted in tradition yet firmly oriented towards the present, Croker’s music merges jazz with hip-hop, soul and electronic influences, shaping a sound that is both fluid and forward-looking.

Grandson of jazz legend Doc Cheatham, Croker carries a rich musical heritage while asserting a distinctive artistic voice. His trumpet playing moves seamlessly between lyrical phrasing and sharp, incisive lines, guiding the ensemble through a repertoire that balances structure and spontaneity.

Surrounded by Idris Frederic (keyboards, piano), Eric Wheeler (double bass) and Jon Onabowu (drums), Croker builds a dense and immersive sonic landscape. The group’s interaction is central to the performance, driven by deep grooves, layered textures and a constant dialogue between rhythm and melody.

Alternating between high-energy passages and more introspective moments, the concert reveals a dynamic and expressive form of jazz, shaped by improvisation and collective energy. Both accessible and sophisticated, Dream Manifest reflects a generation of artists redefining the language of jazz, expanding its boundaries while remaining connected to its core spirit.
